What are the types of information systems?
An information system is a jointly working technical means that provides storage, sorting and analysis of large information arrays.
In the past, the main information systems were not electronic. They were separate rooms where information of a certain type was stored. The data were not stored on electronic media, but written or printed on paper. Such information systems of the past decades include libraries, hospital registries and various catalogs. The search for the necessary information in such systems was carried out manually by a person.
Modern technology
In the modern world, non-electronic information systems are almost completely replaced by electronic ones. Thanks to the development of modern technologies, people have the opportunity to create reliable information systems in which information is stored electronically, and the analysis is carried out automatically with minimal human intervention.
There are two classes and three types into which basic information systems are divided.
Types of information systems and capabilities:
- database for storing structured information. In systems of this type, all stored information is divided into appropriate categories. Systems of this type include electronic library catalogs, information arrays of human resources departments of various companies, and even elementary digital notebooks;
- database for storing unstructured information. In such systems, information arrays are not strictly divided into sections. The information is arranged in an arbitrary order, and the search for the necessary data is carried out by entering a key query. Such information systems primarily include the worldwide Internet, other similar but less common networks, as well as libraries;
- information and analytical system. It is intended not only for storage, but also for information analysis. Such systems include: 1C accounting, 1C enterprise, Excel, etc.
Systems are classified as:
file-server and client-server. The difference between them is only that when using a client-server system, a person gets access to information using the Internet, while in a file-server class system, all information is stored and analyzed on one computer.
